What SCH3U covers, unit by unit


SCH3U (Chemistry, University Preparation) runs across five units. Here is the map, with the mark-losing spots called out:


Matter, chemical trends and bonding. Periodic trends, Lewis structures, ionic and covalent bonding, IUPAC naming. Marks get lost predicting bond type from electronegativity and drawing Lewis structures for multi-atom compounds.

Solutions and solubility. Concentration calculations, acid-base titration, solubility tables, and the Arrhenius definition of acids and bases. Marks get lost on titration calculations and predicting precipitates from solubility rules.

Gases and atmospheric chemistry. Boyle's law, Charles's law, the combined gas law and the ideal gas law, plus stoichiometry involving gases. Marks get lost choosing the right law for the situation and converting units correctly between kPa, mL and Kelvin.
