SPH4U is where physics gets honest about the math. The wave nature of light. Interference, diffraction, the double-slit experiment, electromagnetic theory. Marks get lost on diffraction-grating calculations and the conceptual 'why' questions.
Modern physics. Special relativity, quantum theory, the photoelectric effect, particle physics. Marks get lost on relativity's counter-intuitive reasoning and photoelectric-effect problems.
Why SPH4U feels so hard (and the 3 recurring trouble spots)
Free-body diagrams are the foundation everything else stands on, and the quiet cause of most lost marks in dynamics. Draw the forces wrong and the algebra that follows is flawless work toward a wrong answer. Many students never got explicit feedback on their diagrams in Grade 11, so the error is invisible to them. The second is problem selection: energy and momentum problems often could be solved two ways, and choosing the efficient principle (or knowing when you need both conservation laws) is a judgment skill that only develops with coached practice.
